More Political Correctness

Dario Sanchez posted an item yesterday that has me annoyed.
He is talking about the Blogger’s Code of Conduct.
I have no problem with having a code of conduct on my blog. But it is my blog, so I will have my own code of conduct, thank you very much.
The code they set down is fair enough in its own way. But what I resent is that I am expected to abide by it at all times. They are telling me what to do.
We are inundated with laws and rules and codes of conduct that are there for ‘our own good’. I have no problem with any law that is there to protect another, but I am p*ssed off with rules to protect me from myself. I am p*ssed off with rules that tell me how to run my life.
I know how to look after myself. I wear a seatbelt in my car, not because I’m told to, but because it is common sense, and I don’t want to unnecessarily deprive my family of my glorious presence. I don’t speed in my car for the same reason. I never smoked in restaurants because I am considerate. The list goes on and on.
Now they are trying to tell me how I should write my blog! In fact, I have no problem with any of the rules they set down and they basically state the rules that I set for myself. What I resent, is to be told how to do it.
I can foresee a time in the near future when blogs will have tacky little logos that smugly state that “I abide by the Blogger’s Code of Conduct”. So what? You should be abiding by common sense anyway.
Well, just to forestall you all, I have my own logo. If you lot start putting up yours, then I shall put up mine. Here is a foretaste.
