I notice that there is a lot of verbal diarrhoea today about the American elections.
I suppose it’s inevitable, and I tossed up as to whether to write about it or not. Unfortunately I lost the toss so here goes.
The way I see it, Ireland is fucked one way or another.
If [God forbid] McCain gets in, we are going to get more of the same Dubya insanity that has dominated the world for the last eight years. There will be more of the same policies that have brought death, destruction and financial ruin to the planet.
Of course McCain is ancient, even by my standards, so the senility is bound to make things worse. And when he kicks the bucket we are left with …… Palin. So now we have a complete idiot in the White House who is more than likely to press the Nuclear Button thinking she is switching on the central heating.
On the other hand, if Obama gets in the world should be less threatening, but he is presumably going to overhaul America’s economy. I have heard talk that he would more than likely promote inward investment and maybe even reduce foreign investment. As Ireland is heavily reliant on the latter, we would lose a lot of jobs.
So here it is, in black and white -
McCain = More death and destruction.
Obama = Financial disaster.
Seeing as I would rather be broke than dead, I’m hoping that Obama gets in.
After all, I’m used to financial ruin.
We have had to live with our own shower of incompetent bastards for long enough.
