The Progressive Democrat Principle
Grandad November 8th, 2008
Today is the day when the Progressive Democrats may be wound up as a political entity in Ireland.
Does anyone give a rat’s arse?
They were formed back in ‘85 as an answer to the totally corrupt Haughey government at the time. They were mainly disaffected FFers who saw Haughey for the lying conniving tosser that he was.
They were a beacon of light then. They were a potential force that would break the stranglehold that Fianna Fail held on the political scene. They were a real alternative.
Hah!
Since then, they not only climbed into bed with Fianna Fail, but crawled so far up their arses that they only came out at election time.
They became indistinguishable from Fianna Fail though they protested that they were making a huge difference. No one believed them, and support for the party dwindled to the point of non-existence. Their contribution to the political map now is Mary Harney who is criminally negligent in her destruction of the health service. This is a contribution we could well do without.
Their only contribution to the political history books is the PD Principle. This is the principle that any party that allies itself with Fianna Fail for any length of time is doomed to destruction.
Watch out, Green Party.
You’re next.
