Difficult decisions

December 4th, 2011

Tonight our Glorious Leader is going to make a “state of the nation” address.

Dame Enda is going to explain to us that we are in a “difficult situation” – as if we didn’t know – and how he is going to try to extract the last drop of blood from an already bloodless society in the budget tomorrow.  It’s somewhat akin to a torturer explaining to his victim that it’s for his own good, as he racks the voltage up by another ten thousand volts.

There is a problem though.

If our Great Leader expects an undivided audience, he is going to be disappointed.  He has to compete with the X-Factor on another channel.

It’s a tough choice.

Do we sit and listen to all the pathetic reasons why we have to be buggered yet again, or do we switch over to that Valium for the terminally brain dead?

I know what I am going to do.

I’m going to paint the back lobby.

I shall then sit and watch the paint dry, while inserting needles up under my fingernails.

It’s preferable to the other two.

The wages of fear

December 3rd, 2011

Some extracts from today’s Irish Times [with my added emphasis]-

THE GOVERNMENT is facing the prospect of a difficult referendum after German chancellor Angela Merkel declared her determination to push for changes to the EU treaties as part of a deal to save the euro.

As talks intensify ahead of a crucial European summit next Thursday and Friday in Brussels, EU officials say the strength of Dr Merkel’s campaign to amend the treaties means other leaders will not be able to spurn her.

and

However, there is a realisation among senior Ministers in Dublin that Dr Merkel’s commitment to treaty change and the backing she has received from French president Nicolas Sarkozy may have made that process unstoppable.

I have a couple of queries on this.

Firstly who the blind fuck does Merkel think she is, dictating what Europe has to do?

And is there no one with an ounce of a spine to stand up to her?

If I remember my history correctly, Germany once had another leader who came to power on the back of fear and sheer determination that things should be done his way?

I believe in Santa

December 2nd, 2011

Some people believe in Santa.

Some people believe in the tooth fairy.

And laughable as it may seem, some people actually still believe that Ireland is a democracy.

I watched Vincent Browne last night as there was nothing else on and I didn’t feel like going out.  I’m quite glad I did.

Joe Costello was on the panel.  For those who haven’t a clue who Joe Costello is, he is the Labour representative for Dublin Central, and running up to the last election, Labour were the Great White Hope in a time of utter chaos.

The Labour Manifesto was quite clear on many issues.  Since the election they have rowed back on just about every single issue.  For two years in succession they voted against renewal of the bank guarantee [which was probably the worst guarantee ever formulated since the dawn of time].  Now that they are in power, they are voting for the fucking thing.

Browne quite rightly asked Costello whom he represented.  Did he represent his constituents or did he represent the party?  The answer was quite clear – he represented the party and his constituents could get stuffed.  The programme is worth watching as it defines the expression “tearing a new arsehole”.  My respect for Vinnie went up a notch or two.

Since the election, nothing has changed here.  The old policies which were destroying this country are still being followed.  Not one item has been changed.  The poor are still being taxed out of existence while the rich get richer.  But then no one should be surprised at this as the financial policies are not being decided here, but in Brussels.  And Brussels couldn’t give a flying shite about the people of Ireland.  All they are interested in is their fucking Euro and also that the German banks get paid back their gambling debts.

Holding an election here is futile.  It will change nothing.

It is akin to changing the driver on the 15 bus – different driver; exactly the same route.

To be honest, I would have a stronger belief in Santa.

The peasants are revolting

December 1st, 2011

We all know about tobacco; how it is the primary cause of cancer and heart disease and is the number one cause of preventable deaths in Ireland.

Then there is alcohol, which is the primary cause of cancer and heart disease and is the number one cause of preventable deaths in Ireland.

And of course there is obesity which is the primary cause of cancer and heart disease and is the number one cause of preventable deaths in Ireland.

A “study” has concluded that a quarter of all three year olds are overweight or obese.

I wonder what they mean by overweight?  Say my ideal weight is supposed to be 168lb and I weigh in at 170lb, does that make me overweight?  It probably does and I’m in line for a miserable life of cancers, heart attacks and diabetes before I die an agonising and slow death long before my time [whenever that is].

Of course the study has found the root cause – the majority of the overweight three year olds were from that Lower Order – the Great Uneducated Unwashed.

We all know that the Peasant Class breed like rabbits in order to claim Child Benefit, so it’s no real surprise that they constitute the majority of the overweight.  Statistically, it’s quite understandable.  What is a bit of a mystery though is how they can afford to stuff their kids full of crisps and Coke.  Child Benefit must pay well, though I presume next week’s budget will address that little problem.

At a time when most people are struggling to make ends meet; where parents are literally starving themselves to feed their children [I heard of a case yesterday of a child being given sweetened water for his lunch as the mother couldn’t afford anything else] I consider it to be pretty heartening that the Peasant Class are able to feed their sprogs so well.  As a society, we should clap ourselves on our collective backs.

There are many ways to solve this problem.

They could try educating the peasants but that is doomed to failure.

They could export them all to some deserving country [Iran?].

Or they could just stop doing these fucking “studies”.
